BST Announces New Principal
24 October 2013
Brisbane School of Theology (BST) is pleased to announce the appointment of Rev Dr Richard Gibson to the position of college Principal, commencing June 16, 2014.
Rev Dr Gibson will be taking over the position previously held by Dr Johan Ferreira who stepped down from the role on June 28, 2013.
Chairman of the Board, Mr Ian Case, who has led the Principal selection committee, is very pleased that a final outcome can be announced today.
“The Board and selection committee have worked diligently to ensure that the right person was appointed to the role,” Mr Case said.
“We’ve had numerous excellent candidates apply for the position, and with much prayer and careful selection, it is pleasing to be able to announce Rev Dr Gibson’s appointment to the job,” he said.
Rev Dr Gibson brings 20 years of theological teaching experience, lecturing at Moore Theological College (NSW) in New Testament Greek, New Testament and Early and Reformation Church History.
Ordained in 1990 by the Anglican Diocese of Sydney, Rev Dr Gibson holds a Doctor of Philosophy, Master of Theology, Bachelor of Theology, Diploma of Arts in Theology, and a Bachelor of Social Work. He served as Chairman of the College of Preachers (Sydney Diocese) from 2003 to 2009.
With a strong Christian influence from his family, where his father was an Anglican minister serving with the Church Missionary Society and his grandfather a Presbyterian minister, Rev Dr Gibson is fully committed to the Bible as God’s word and to serving God in Christian living and in teaching and preaching the gospel of the Lord Jesus.
Rev Dr Gibson is humbled by the opportunity to serve as Principal at Brisbane School of Theology, understanding the significance of the role he will be stepping into in 2014.
“I am sincerely thankful to the Board, selection committee, faculty and staff at Brisbane School of Theology who all welcomed me and my wife, Kim, with such warm hospitality during our visit for the interview,” Rev Dr Gibson said.
“Brisbane School of Theology has an excellent reputation and has equipped many hundreds of missionaries, ministers and Christian leaders for the past 70 years, and it is with honour and privilege that I can continue the tradition of excellence in leading the college into the next period of its ministry,” Rev Dr Gibson said.
“I look forward to meeting all the students in due course as well as our stakeholders, mission and ministry partners, and engaging with the Queensland churches.”
Mr John Coulson will continue in the role of Acting Principal until Rev Dr Gibson commences next year.
Mr Coulson, BST’s Academic Dean, has been in the Acting Principal role since Dr Ferreira stepped down from the position mid this year.
“We are sincerely thankful to Dr Johan Ferreira for the excellent visionary leadership and godly wisdom he contributed to the college during his time as Principal between 2009 and June 28 this year,” Mr Coulson said.
“Dr Ferreira will remain on faculty until mid 2014 and will be greatly missed when he leaves us for a new chapter in his professional career and ministry.”
Dr Ferreira has been a faculty member of the college for nearly 18 years and he will leave a great legacy behind with many students, faculty and staff who will fondly remember his excellent teaching, commitment to the gospel and mission, and his wisdom.
