Russell Briese, BST sessional lecturer

Rev Dr Russell Briese joins BST as a sessional lecturer teaching Church, Sacraments and Ministry in semester 2, 2015.
Russell completed his doctoral studies in systematic theology and religious studies at the University of Regensburg, Germany.
He is the Chaplaincy Coordinator at Griffith University and chairs the Faith and Unity Commission of Queensland Churches Together.
“I’m delighted to join BST and help students develop an integrated Christian theological perspective in the areas of church life and ministry,” he said.
“These are areas of study and practice that I am particularly passionate about.”
With a teaching history that includes lecturing at Uniting Church in Australia, Assemblies of God, and Anglican colleges, Russell has also been active in research with published works covering historical themes, the church in contemporary Australian society, as well as themes of mission and ecumenism.
On most Sundays you’ll find Russell leading worship at St Paul’s Lutheran Church in Beaudesert.
Married with two primary-school aged children, Russell enjoys spending time with his family, and devouring a good drama and thriller novel by Jeffrey Archer.
When asked what about his favourite theologians, Russell said, “My favourite spiritual writer is Henri Nouwen. I’ve also had the privilege of hearing some of the great latter 20th century theologians ‘in the flesh’, the likes of Moltmann, Pannenberg, and Juengel.”
We look forward to having Russell with us next semester.
Please pray for Russell and our students as they explore the relationship between kingdom and church, the nature of the church and the different forms of ministry, as well as looking more closely at prayer, worship and sacraments.
