Reading and Interpreting Genesis 1-11 in its ANE context

This unit will address the role of Genesis 1-11 in the book of Genesis and the coherence of the narratives that comprise this section of Scripture. There will be a focus on understanding the biblical text within its Ancient Near Eastern context. On this basis conclusions will be drawn concerning the theological message of Genesis 1-11 and its various parts.
John Walton is an Old Testament scholar and Professor at Wheaton College. He was a professor at Moody Bible Institute for 20 years. He specializes in the Ancient Near Eastern backgrounds of the Old Testament, especially Genesis and its creation account, as well as interpretation of Job.
