Honouring our volunteers

Rev Dr Richard Gibson presenting Leon Tirel with a plaque commemorating his 25 years of voluntary service.

On Wednesday, November 9 we honoured two long-serving volunteers at the BST End of Year Dinner.
Leon Tirel (pictured with Richard) started volunteering in the BST library in 1991 after hearing former deputy principal Ivan Bowden guest speak at his church. When he found out that Ivan Bowden worked at BST, Leon wanted to know how he could get involved with the college and gain more experience in the library.
“I trained as a librarian and was looking for work at the time but couldn’t find anything. So I thought helping at the college might be a good way to get more experience,” Leon said. “I enjoy what I do for the college and appreciate that everyone has been so kind and lovely.”
We are so thankful for Leon’s valuable contributions to the college over the last 25 years. He has been the full-time carer for his father and spends one day a week at BST cataloguing journals. When Leon started volunteering in 1991, the college was just starting to automate its cataloguing system.

Neil Conwell, retired BST director.

We also honoured Neil Conwell who retired from the BST board earlier this year. Neil has served with the BST board for 18 years and was actively involved in various ministries at his church while also running his business as a building contractor.
People like Neil, Leon and our other current serving volunteers have shown considerable generosity in using their gifts, skills and time to help us equip our students to know God’s word so that they can take it to the world. Please join us in thanking God for our volunteers.
