Greek-themed dinner highlights

Richard Gibson and Alan Shanks
Rev Dr Richard Gibson with Alan Shanks who has served on the BST board for the last 35 years.

Our Greek-themed annual dinner was held on Wednesday 12 November 2014 with 122 people in attendance at the Riverglenn function centre,  Indooroopilly. We celebrated with our students, staff/faculty, board members and other volunteers, alumni and of course our families...
When the BST Student Council decided on a Greek theme we didn’t know what to expect, but we certainly benefited from the creative input. So many of our students and other guests responded with zest and embraced the theme resulting in a bold array of costumes – there were togas, an ‘Athenian School of Theology’, stylish wreaths worn as head pieces and even a large trojan horse!
The evening gave us an opportunity to celebrate the highlights from 2014 and to congratulate our students for making it through their studies, especially the graduating students. The smiling faces of our students, and particularly those who have finished their course, reflect the sense of joy and relief that exams and assessments are now all over for the year. Congratulations and well done!
Our beloved principal spoke from John 12:17-26 as the main message for the evening. To listen click here>
We also presented farewell gifts to: Sally McCall our women’s mentor who will be leaving us at the end of the year to pursue further studies (stay tuned as we introduce you to Kylie Brown, our new women’s mentor in 2015); Bill Gilliver who has stepped in to teach church history classes on Wednesday nights; and also Allan Quak who worked as field education coordinator.  Alan Shanks, our longest-serving volunteer, was honoured with a plaque celebrating 35 years of faithful service to BST as a member of the board and library volunteer. John Coulson, our Academic Dean and Deputy Principal, was awarded with a certificate of appreciation for reaching his ten year milestone at BST. We’re thankful for the contributions and faithful service of our staff and volunteers like Alan.
We also welcomed back alumni who joined us, including Alvin Tam who shared some of his experiences since graduating from the college five years ago. Alvin is a senior pastor and has experienced more than his fair share of challenges in ministry. He shared practical insight on what has helped him to get through, like the BST graduate attributes that have become a go-to-guide in helping to steer his life and ministry.
A big thank you to everyone who came and celebrated with us.
