Strengthening Our Communities: BST Safeguarding Children Conference in Toowoomba

In March, we had the privilege of hosting the BST Safeguarding Children Conference in Toowoomba at the invitation of HumeRidge Church of Christ. It was an impactful day where ministry leaders, church members, pastors, youth leaders, and volunteers gathered to learn how to better protect children and vulnerable people in our Christian communities.

Key highlights of the day:
– Expert Speakers: We heard from Rev Dr Richard Gibson, Detective Senior Constable Scott Meehan, and Paul Tuxworth. Each shared valuable insights into safeguarding, child protection, and responding appropriately when harm occurs. Their combined expertise in theology, law enforcement, and social work helped break down misconceptions and provided practical strategies for keeping our communities safe.

– Action-Focused Atmosphere: Attendees were not only equipped with tools to identify and prevent abuse but also left with clear, actionable next steps to implement in their own communities. It was inspiring to see the genuine desire for change and a commitment to taking practical steps to safeguard vulnerable people.

– Engagement and Networking: From interactive Q&A sessions to a bustling book stall (which sold out most publications!), the conference created space for collaboration and support. The feedback was overwhelmingly positive, with many wishing more people could have been there to engage in these crucial conversations.

We are grateful to everyone who attended and committed to taking action in their own communities. Safeguarding children is a shared responsibility, and we are proud to partner with others in this vital work.

Looking ahead: If you weren’t able to attend, don’t worry! We’re planning our Brisbane BST Safeguarding Children Conference for August, and more details will be available in the coming weeks. Stay tuned!
