Brisbane School of Theology

Getting Ready for a Transformational Year

We can’t wait to kick off what promises to be an amazing year at Brisbane School of Theology! Orientation begins on 5 February and classes begin on 10 February… And it’s already shaping up to be a big year.

Exciting Leadership Update

On the heels of John Coulson’s retirement last year, we’re delighted to announce Dr Robert Edwards as our new Deputy Principal. Robert has been an integral part of our community since 2023, serving as a lecturer and Head of Christian Thought, and our Director of Postgraduate Studies; now, in this new leadership role, he’s bringing fresh energy, vision, and heart to BST. We’re excited for what’s to come under his guidance as he works closely with our Principal, Richard Gibson, in helping to shape the new season ahead.

“I am excited to have the opportunity to contribute to BST in this new way. The college has such a strong legacy in Bible teaching and mission, and I look forward to continuing to build on this solid foundation!”

An Exciting Year Ahead

This semester is full of new opportunities! Here’s some of what’s ahead in the coming weeks and months:

    • Diploma of Ministry (Chaplaincy Pathway): We’re thrilled to launch this new course, in partnership with Scripture Union Australia. This diploma is an opportunity to equip passionate people to serve young people through chaplaincy and youth ministry. The need for chaplains has never been greater, and we’re excited to prepare students to step into those roles and make a real difference in the lives of young people.
    • Child Safeguarding Unit: The Child Safeguarding Unit running this semester is a key part of our commitment to ministry that is both safe and responsible. We’re continuing in the important work of keeping children safe in Christian communities, addressing child protection issues from a practical, theological, and legal perspective. This unit is essential for anyone who cares about making sure our ministries are safe and nurturing environments for children.
    • Community and Connection: At BST, our students’ learning and formation extends beyond the classroom—we work out our learning in our relationships with one another. Whether through weekly chapel servicescommunity lunches, or our Mission Awareness Program, we’re committed to creating an environment where academic rigour and meaningful community life are inseparable. This is a place where students not only grow in knowledge but are also challenged and shaped in their faith by the community around them.

And there’s more—this semester, we’re excited to host a Public Lecture with Bruce Hindmarsh on 15 February and a Preaching Workshop on 1 March. These events are designed to fuel your passion for ministry and deepen your understanding of key theological concepts, all while connecting you to a broader community of learners and leaders.

Still Time to Join Us!

If you’ve been thinking about studying with us, now’s the time to jump in! Orientation begins on 5 February, so there’s still time to be part of this exciting year at BST. You can learn more and apply here.

We’re so excited about all that God has in store for us this year—and we can’t wait to see how He will work through our students, staff, and community.
