Safeguarding Children Conference 2025

At the BST Safeguarding Children Conference over 60 people from more than 25 churches and mission organisations, across multiple denominations, gathered with one shared goal: to make our Christian communities safer for children and young people.

The conference began with our Principal Richard Gibson opening God’s Word in Judges 19, calling us to speak boldly and act decisively against abuse.

Electives tackled both theology and practice, from seeing the value and vulnerability of children in the Old Testament (Kelsey Fitz-Gerald) to managing known sex offenders in a church community (Detective Senior Sergeant Scott Meehan).

Keynote speaker Patricia Weerakoon brought passion and humour as she equipped us to have age-appropriate, God-honouring conversations with children about sex, their bodies, and relationships – a vital part of protecting them from harm.

Throughout the day, conversations were honest, challenging, and hopeful.

Attendees left with practical action steps and resources to continue the work in their own communities.

A special highlight was seeing everyone who stopped by the bookstall and invested in more tools for safeguarding their ministry.

To every church pastor, ministry and mission leader, parent, and church member who gave their time to be there, thank you for caring deeply about the next generation.

If you want to take the next step in this important work, consider joining our 13-week Safeguarding Children unit in 2026. Express your interest here.
