How can God use me in business?

#26
Witali Klein, BST Executive Administrator

As a young 12 year old boy, I was in awe of the engineers, doctors and business people who gave up their comfortable lives to work on the mission field to serve God.

The memories I have of missionaries who visited our church in Germany left a lasting impression on my heart.  I was encouraged because I realised early on that God can use the skills and abilities of people with qualifications for His purpose.  It propelled me to study a Business degree so that I could use the skills I learned to make a difference in third world countries.  At the time, I dreamed of one day growing a business in a third world community so that I could employ people within that community, and essentially help them to live  a better quality of life.  The kind of life that would enable them to have access to housing, food, education, medical support and lead them to Jesus.  That desire remains real for me today.  Jesus tells us that “If a brother or sister is poorly clothed and lacking in daily food, and one of you says to them, ‘Go in peace, be warmed and filled,’ without giving them the things needed for the body, what good is that?” (James 2:15-16 ESV)  That verse really resonates with me.  It reminds me to do more than share the gospel with people, but to also help the ones who desperately need our help to provide for things such as food and clothing.
While I completed my business degree, I also knew the importance of being grounded firmly in the Bible.  I’ve done a few theology subjects in Germany to help me know and communicate God’s word better.  Everything that I do, whether in my current role as Executive Administrator at the college or in my personal life, is guided by God’s word.  It’s sometimes a stumbling block for those qualified to look to their own skills and say, “Hey, I achieved this!”  But, the importance for me is to stay humble, and to remember that while we have our part to play in sowing with works, we must always be firmly grounded in what God says in His word.  The ultimate goal for me is to advance the Kingdom of God.  God is the one who first sends us, and with whatever skills we have learned or the abilities we have, God can use it all for His purpose.

Did you know?

There are 2.9billion unreached people in the world.  “An unreached or least-reached people is a people group among which there is no indigenous community of believing Christians with adequate numbers and resources to evangelize this people group” (Joshua Project, 2013).
